Washington State has continued to make national headlines over the years. From our booming tech community and hot housing market to our ever-successful Seattle Seahawks, Washington manages to find ways to stand out. While news about Amazon and the housing market were hovering in the spotlight, our state has been quietly establishing itself as a leader in the wine industry.
Washington state has come a long way since its humble beginnings in the 1960s when there were only a few wineries throughout our region. Today, there are nearly 1,000 wineries throughout the state, making Washington the second-largest wine-producing state in the country.
While most of the wine-growing region is located on the eastern half of the Cascade Mountains, due to the favorable climate, the western half enjoys ample options for tasting. Woodinville, just a short drive from Seattle, offers more than 100 tasting rooms.
Keen on tasting some world-class wine but don’t want to venture too far? Our very own Bainbridge Island is home to several award-winning wineries that can be found at Bainbridgewineries.com. Each winery hosts intimate tasting opportunities—paired with handcrafted style—that provides a truly one-of-a-kind tasting experience. Please find a list of special events at these incredible wineries here.
Washington winemakers believe this is only the beginning, and they will continue to stake their claim on an international level. With continued success, our region will surely remain a sought-after destination for wine enthusiasts.
